What standards and certificates available for EVSE adapters
EVSE adapters means adapters can convert different standard ev chargers to charge different standard charging ports/inlets EV.
For example, in USA, if your EV is Tesla with NACS inlets, you can attached an CCS1-NACS or say CCS1-Tesla adapter to a CCS1 DC charger to charge you EV,when you are in a place only with CCS1 DC fast chargers.
Likewise, if your EV is Ford with CCS1 charging inlet, you can use NACS-CCS1 adapter and attached to Tesla NACS supercharger to charge your CCS1 EV.
So far, only EV made by GM,Ford,Rivian are allowed to use Tesla supercharger. Honda,Toyota,BMW,Benz and others EV brand still applying theirs EV APP for Tesla’s auditing on access in supercharger.
On the world, there are NACS, CCS1, CCS2, GBT(DC), ChaDeMo total five standards for fast charging interface. And NACS, TYPE1, TYPE2,GBT(AC) total four standard for AC slow charging.
Therefore, you can imaging by DC-DC adapters, there will be so much variety combination of adapters: NACS-CCS1,NACS-CCS2,NACS-GBT,NACS-CHaDeMo and reverse like CCS1-NACS,CCS2-NACS,GBT-NACS,CHaDeMo-NACS, and this is only one round.
Start form CCS1, you will have CCS1-NACS,CCS1-CCS2,CCS1-GBT,CCS1-CHaDeMo and reverse version NACS-CCS1,CCS2-CCS1,GBT-CCS1,CHaDeMo-CCS1.
Crazy? we still need to go CCS2, that is CCS2-NACS, CCS2-GBT,CCS2-CHaDeMo and reverse NACS-CCS2,GBT-CCS2,CHaDeMo-CCS2. And GBT turns, GBT-CCS1,GBT-CCS2 already mentioned, GBT-NACS(DC), GBT-CHaDeMo.
Likewise, there are CHaDeMo-GBT, CHaDeMo-NACS/CCS1/CCS2.
And for AC adapters, you will go the same circle again. But the market hot selling AC adapter is mainly NACS-TYPE1, TYPE1-NACS,TYPE1-TYPE2, TYPE2-TYPE1,NACS-TYPE2,TYPE2-NACS,type1-GBT, GBT-TYPE1, GBT-NACS(AC),NACS-GBT(AC) etc., which all cover by Olink production line.
Then the question come. Who on earth make all these adapters? Does there anyone make these stuff?
Fortunately, the answer is positive. Olink make all these adapters, and only Olink make all these kinds of adapters, no any other company but only Huizhou Olink make all these adapters. Olink aim at provide charging freedom to all EV owners travel through the earth in any country.
However, is it safe? Is there any safety test and certificate on all these adapters?
Good news is UL has. UL just released testing standard for 4 main adapters such as NACS-CCS1, CCS1-NACS, TYPE1/J1772-NACS, NACS-TYPE1/J1772 which use in North America under UL2252 on 25,March 2025.
There is UL2251 released in 2024 And Olink had applied test and certificate from CSA Lab applying UL2251 for TYPE1/J1772-NACS and successfully obtained the certificates. At present Olink’s adapters NACS-CCS1, CCS1-NACS, NACS-TYPE1 are testing in CSA by UL2252 standard and soon will pass the test to have official certificates.
But what about others types of EV adapters? Sorry, only TUV are working on Europe type adapter testing standards like CCS2-CCS1, TYPE2-TYPE1, but when can we have it and apply for testing and certificate, no official declaration yet. We still need to wait and see.
However, Olink do all possible testing in the labs that can provide testing standard and service such as CE and FCC. Olink have a full-function in-house Lab to carry out all safety testing like temperature rising, waterproof, flame, frozen and high temp., connector insert and pull-out force, pins and contacts insert-pull out force, pins and contacts lifespan, high-pot, Dielectric, Insulation resistance etc. More than 20 categories testing.
Each standards is so complicated especially CCS/NACS apply PLC/PWM technology, while GBT/CHaDeMo apply CAN communication, it is very hard for any Lab to build up testing standards for all these types of adapters.
